Marine Radio Training
LAWFUL REQUIREMENT:
All operators of a ship radio station, must possess a certificate of proficiency to operate VHF or MF/HF marine radio transceiver in accordance with the "Australian Radio Communications Act of 1992".
V.H.F MARINE RADIO CERTIFICATE COURSE OUTCOMES:
- To be instructed and tested to a standard to satisfy the A.M.C .(Australian Maritime College) covering all facets associated with proper procedures of operating a radio transceiver during the broadcast of Distress, Urgency, Safety and Routine calling procedures, the correct channel frequencies available, radio and antenna maintenance, battery maintenance, correct use of all types of distress beacons (EPIRBS), Phonetic alphabet.
- To understand the correct procedures for the use of D.S.C. (Digital Selective Calling), how VHF radio waves are generated and what happens to them and common standard marine radio communication phrases.
- To achieve all the knowledge that is necessary to acquire a certificate of proficiency, to operate a VHF marine radio in accordance with the international regulations upheld by the ACMA (Australian Communication and Media Authority).
- This course includes hands on radio experience to give you the confidence to understand and use your own radio equipment on your boat at sea.
PRE COURSE STUDY:
On enrolment on our course you will be forwarded some pre-course reading & study on lead acid batteries and the phonetic alphabet. A passport sized photo needs to be obtained by the student prior to the course and brought along to the course on the day. This passport photo needs to be included with your license application to A.M.C.
COURSE STRUCTURE:
Our marine radio courses start at 8am and finish around 4pm and include all instruction and testing in one day. At the completion of the course your written test is posted to A.M.C.(Launceston, Tasmania) the issuing authority for the Marine Radio Certificate of Proficiency in Australia.
Your written test is then marked and your Marine Radio Certificate is issued to you by post from Tasmania.
